Praveen ‘The Flute Guy’ Prathapan

Praveen Prathapan, known by his stage name The Flute Guy, is a British Indian/Sri-Lankan musician and is a passionate musician and advocate for mental health. A University of Oxford science graduate, Praveen spent time working for NASA in California before making the monumentous decision to dedicate his life to music and helping others.

Introduced to the flute by his father at a young age, Praveen has been playing for 18 years. He has performed at many prestigious venues across the globe, including Buckingham Palace, the Nehru Centre, and Times Square. He is a classically trained musician, and remains close to his Carnatic roots, with collaborations with renowned artists such as Rakesh Chaurasia and Bombay Jayashri under his belt.

In 2017, Praveen's Indian version of the hit song 'Despacito' went viral, garnering over 4 million views on YouTube. Praveen soon began a North America tour under the moniker 'The Flute Guy', performing in Boston, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Muncie, New York, Ottawa, San Francisco, San Jose, and Toronto.

Praveen is hugely popular on social media for his creative use on the bansuri experimenting in Western classical music, in collaborations with Western classical musicians, as well as his bringing original compositions to life.

He has an extremely busy schedule performing around the world and seems to be rarely back in his home city of London.
